Miss Seven Rivers 2014

On January 18, 2014 I was crowned Miss Seven Rivers 2014 at Holmen High School.

This day was filled with a roller coaster of emotions for a few different reasons. First of all, it was the first title I competed for after giving up my title as Miss La Crosse/Oktoberfest 2012 in September. As I’m sure many current and past titleholders within The Miss America Organization can attest to, once you’ve held a title and you pursue another one, you feel more pressure to succeed. It’s not because you care about others’ outlook on you if you don’t ultimately win the title, at least for me that wasn’t the case. It was because with each experience you meet more people, whether you’re out volunteering or connecting with individuals that dedicate their time within this program your passion for the MAO grows immensely. I feel as though with each new title a woman pursues, she gains a better understanding of what The Miss America Organization stands for, the impact it has on the community, what she wants to do with her personal platform and service, and finally who she is as a person. Second, my older sister, Morgan had captured the job of Miss Wisconsin Rapids Area 2014 (our hometown title) in late October after tirelessly pouring all of her time and energy into pursuing that title for the past three years (finally winning on her fourth and FINAL attempt before “aging out” of the Miss America Organization). For years, we talked about the possibility of someday going to Miss Wisconsin together but we never quite imagined that dream would come true.

I remember tearing up in the closing of my private interview with the judges that morning telling them that my older sister, Morgan had recently became Miss Wisconsin Rapids Area 2014. I told them that in all honesty, her and I did not get along quite that well…except when it came to the Miss America Organization, its values, and the desire to make a difference in others’ lives. I instantly chocked up and felt tears start to roll down my cheeks as I expressed how incredibly humbled I would be to have this once in a lifetime opportunity to share this journey to Miss Wisconsin 2014 with my big sister; while serving the region and people I had come to love during my time as Miss La Crosse/Oktoberfest 2012.
