My journey within the Miss America Organization…

I began my involvement in the Miss America Organization in the Fall of 2010, my senior year of high school. For years I had watched women older than me compete and to be honest I saw it as a right of passage in my hometown. I had a talent, I wasn’t shy, so I figured why not? Little did I know at that moment in time the long-lasting impact this organization would have on my life.

I competed initially in the Miss Wisconsin Rapids Area pageant and placed as 3rd runner-up. I went on to compete that spring (March, 2011) in the Miss Heart of the Valley/Miss Fox River Valley scholarship programs in Appleton, Wisconsin where I did not place. The following fall (September, 2011) I moved to La Crosse to attend UW-La Crosse as a freshman in college. I wanted to focus on transitioning into the college life and adjusting to the new city. That winter (January, 2012) I competed in ththe Miss Seven Rivers pageant and didn’t place.

I must add that during my three Miss America Organization pageants where I did not walk away with a title, I gained new friends and grew so much as a person. I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and with each failure came many successes that molded me into the woman I am today and led me to my ultimate fate.

That Fall (September, 2012) I vied for the chance to serve as Miss La Crosse/Oktoberfest 2012 and won my first local title (on my fourth attempt). Note-good things don’t come easy and always remind yourself that God has a greater plan in store for you. Things may not make sense in the moment, in light of stressful times and defeat but there is something great in the works; for me that something great was the Oktoberfest Organization. {See the Miss La Crosse Oktoberfest tab for more on my year of service.}

My year as Miss La Crosse/Oktoberfest 2012 came to an end in September, 2013. Four short months after giving up my first title, I went on to compete in the Miss Seven Rivers pageant that January, 2014 and won. {See the Miss Seven Rivers tab for more on my year of service.}
